While Tom Brady was the first to get the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on the board, Los Angeles Chargers rookie Justin Herbert has provided a strong answer, giving the Chargers an early lead against Tampa Bay in their Week 4 game.
Following Brady’s touchdown pass to Cameron Brate gave Tampa Bay an early 7-0 lead over Los Angeles, Herbert went downfield and scored the Chargers’ first touchdown to tie the game at 7-7 with 8:14 left in the first quarter.

Herbert, who was selected sixth overall by the Chargers in the 2020 NFL Draft last April, unloaded a 53-yard touchdown pass that found wide receiver Tyron Johnson, who was able to separate himself from two Buccaneers defenders for the score. The Chargers needed just four plays to find the end zone for the first time in the game, and increased their lead to 14-7 on an interception by cornerback Mike Davis.
The 22-year old Herbert, who spent four seasons at Oregon before declaring for the Draft, has already equaled his touchdown output from the Chargers’ Week 3 game against the Carolina Panther, when he finished with just one score, one interception, making 35 of 49 passes and passing for 330 yards in a 21-16 loss.
Article Continues BelowHerbert is looking to give Los Angeles its second win of the season after the team suffered back to back losses to the Panthers and the Kansas City Chiefs following their season opening win over the Cincinnati Bengals. If the Chargers pull out the win, it will be their first with the rookie Herbert as their signal-caller after he replaced quarterback Tyrod Taylor against the Chiefs after he suffered a chest injury just before the game.
