The Los Angeles Rams have shown that they have a few holes to fill after the 2019 season comes to a close. Among their needs, Ohio State cornerback Shaun Wade could make sense as a second-round target for the Rams in 2020 NFL Draft.
Earlier this season, Los Angeles surrendered a ton of draft capital to land Jalen Ramsey in a blockbuster trade. Above all, the Rams won't have their first-round pick for the next two years.
Not having a first-round pick isn't a new feeling for Sean McVay and the Rams. Since he became the head coach of the organization in 2017, he has yet to make a selection in the first round.
Along with acquiring Ramsey, the Rams also traded Marcus Peters and Aqib Talib. Therefore, Troy Hill has been asked to assume the starting cornerback role alongside Ramsey and Nickell Robey-Coleman.
Nevertheless, Los Angeles has done a decent job of finding talent in the middle rounds of the draft. If this season has shown anything, it's that the Rams have some glaring needs that need to be addressed in the offseason.
Of course, fixing the offensive line will be the priority for the Rams after this year. But if they don't target offensive line, cornerback is a position that Los Angeles could focus on.
While everyone is raving about Jeff Okudah, Wade has been overlooked. The Ohio State cornerback has tallied 26 tackles, four tackles for loss, an interception, seven deflections, and two forced fumbles in 2019.
Over his collegiate career, he has totaled 57 tackles, four interceptions, 14 deflections, and three forced fumbles in two seasons. Sadly, an injury to his abdomen prevented him from participating in the 2017 season.
As a redshirt sophomore, there's a chance that Wade chooses to return to college in 2020. Due to his inexperience at the position, there are scouts who expect him to wait until 2021 to declare for the NFL.
In the event that he enters the 2020 NFL Draft, Los Angeles should do their due diligence on Wade.
Despite trading for him, it remains to be seen if the Rams shell out an immense amount of money for Ramsey. Additionally, it's still undecided if Hill or someone else is going to remain as the No. 2 cornerback on the roster in 2020.
This year, the Rams have had rookie David Long Jr. develop as he's had a limited role on the defense. Due to his lack of experience, Los Angeles could do the same if they choose to select Wade.
Again, bolstering the offensive line is of the utmost importance for the Rams next year. But if cornerbacks are on their radar, Wade could be an intriguing option for the Rams in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft.
