After short stints with the New Orleans Saints and Arizona Cardinals last season, future Hall of Famer Adrian Peterson is looking for a new team in the NFL once again. Although Peterson believes he can still play at a high level and be a valuable contributor to any team that signs him, he's not exactly getting a lot of interest at the moment.
Recently, Peterson mentioned some teams around the league that he thinks he'd be an ideal fit for next season on an appearance on ESPN's NFL Live. Among the teams mentioned is the Los Angeles Rams, except he thinks they're still playing in St. Louis for some reason, transcription via Cameron DaSilva of The Rams Wire.
“Obviously, I’ve mentioned Houston a couple times. I feel like Green Bay wouldn’t be a bad look, as well. Carolina. There’s some options out there. You know, Miami. Down there in St. Louis. That would be a nice look, too, with Todd Gurley. You see around the league they have a two-back system. Guys are really not pounding the ball 20, 30 times a game, so I think that leaves the door open for a couple opportunities for me.”
At this point, it seems as though Peterson has finally come to the realization he'll no longer be the feature back in NFL and may merely be looking for a shot at a Super Bowl ring. The Rams have a good chance to compete for a title in 2018 with Gurley leading the way for the star-studded roster, and Peterson could help their chances as long as he is willing to accept a backup or limited role in Los Angeles (not St. Louis).
As for the other options, the Green Bay Packers would be an interesting fit for the veteran back as he'd certainly make that team much more intimidating in the ground game. Green Bay has struggled in that area for quite some time, and legitimate threat coming out of the backfield might open things up for superstar quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
The Houston Texans is also an intriguing destination for Peterson. He's mentioned wanting to sign with the team multiple times, but nothing has come of it up to this point in the offseason. Although he remains unsigned, there are still a few months left before the 2018 campaign gets underway and he could receive a call from one of the teams mentioned if they're willing to take a gamble on the veteran as he seems heads toward the end of his playing career.
