The Los Angeles Rams got some good, if expected, news on Friday. The NFL announced the list of compensatory picks for the upcoming draft, with the reigning NFC champions gaining an additional pair of third-round picks – a better haul received by any team in the league other than the New England Patriots, who were also granted two third-rounders.

The rich, believe it or not, keep getting richer. The Rams also gained a seventh-round pick.

Compensatory draft selections are awarded to teams due to an incumbent player signing elsewhere in free agency. Los Angeles always expected to be compensated this offseason after wide receiver Sammy Watkins and cornerback Trumaine Johnson left the team last offseason.

Watkins signed a three-year, $48 million deal with the Kansas City Chiefs after just one season with the Rams. The injury problems that have plagued the former top-five pick throughout his career followed him to Kansas City. Limited to just 10 games due to a nagging foot injury, Watkins had 40 catches for 519 yards and three touchdowns. He missed the last six games of the regular season, but returned for the playoffs, catching four passes for a team-high 114 yards in the Chiefs' overtime loss to the Patriots in the AFC Championship game.

Johnson, meanwhile, was afforded a five-year, $72 million deal by the New York Jets. The 6-foot-2, 213-pounder finished with 40 tackles, four interceptions, and four passes defended despite playing in just 10 games due to a lingering quad injury, living up to the billing as a bonafide number one cornerback.
