In the weeks leading up to the 2018 NFL Draft, there has been plenty of dialogue surrounding the Miami Dolphins' future at the quarterback position. Much of this is regarding the possibility that the team will look to snag a quarterback with their 11th overall selection despite the impending return of Ryan Tannehill.
This has seemingly drawn speculation that the organization doesn't view Tannehill as the long-term answer under center.
However, during a recent interview on Pro Football Talk Live, head coach Adam Gase made it clear that the team is still committed to Tannehill as their starter moving forward.
“All you can do is say it and actions speak louder than words, I guess,” Gase said. “That’s who’s gonna be on the field for us. I don’t see that changing. Ryan’s been a guy that we’ve built a lot of this around. My confidence level in him is very high. What I saw at the end of 2016 gives me great confidence in him. I’m excited to get him back. I know last year was tough on not only him but a lot of us because there’s a lot of time invested in that. I know our players are excited to get him back and get going again. We’ll see what we can do.”
Although Tannehill was unable to take the field in 2017 due to an ACL tear, he certainly showed promise during the 2016 season prior to getting hurt, leading Miami to seven wins out of their last eight games. He appeared to progress greatly toward being a dependable option for the long haul, throwing for 13 touchdown passes over that stretch.

At the same time, the Dolphins are also on the books for three more years of his four-year, $77 million deal that runs through the 2020 season. Miami is financially committed to him through the next few seasons, making it difficult for them to move on from him.
While Miami may be committed to Tannehill, it doesn't remove the possibility that the team will look to grab one of the young quarterbacks in this year's draft. There were earlier reports this offseason that Gase was quite intrigued by UCLA's Josh Rosen.
Ultimately, what the Dolphins decide to do in the draft could be quite indicative of what Tannehill's future with the franchise will look like.
