New England Patriots safety Devin McCourty has now won three Super Bowls with the team, so he knows all about how great Bill Belichick and the rest of the coaching staff is.
After the Patriots' Super Bowl 53 victory over the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday night, McCourty made his praise for Belichick and Co. well known:
“These coaches work their butts off,” McCourty said, according to Stephen Holder of The Athletic. “We obviously get a lot of credit for what we do as players, but we never go out there and think it’s just us. These guys, whether it’s staying in (the office) all night, whether it’s changing a whole gameplan because we don’t like it on a Wednesday night, they’ll go do that. Whether it’s searching for different plays on a certain player or deep throws by the quarterback, they go do that. We’re so appreciative of everything they do. When McVay says something like that, hats off to our staff.”
McCourty was referring to a comment made by Rams head coach Sean McVay, where McVay said that he was “outcoached” by the Patriots during his team's Super Bowl loss.
It is widely accepted that Belichick is the greatest coach in NFL history and one of the greatest coaches in the history of professional sports period, and it's had to argue with that statement.
Belichick has now won six Super Bowls, tying him with George Halas and Curly Lambeau as the only two coaches in league history to win six NFL championships.
