The New England Patriots won yet another Super Bowl on Sunday night, defeating the Los Angeles Rams by a score of 13-3 to capture their seventh championship, with six coming in the last 17 years.
Afterward, Rams quarterback Jared Goff acknowledged the Patriots' greatness, noting that he can glean how New England has been so good for so long:
“I think you see why they are so good, and why they've done it for so long,” said Goff, according to Michael Silver of NFL.com. “You have so much respect for them, and you really understand why now. It sucks. I didn't do enough. But at the same time, it's 3-3 in the fourth quarter, and we had our chances. We didn't take advantage of those chances, and that's my job.”
Goff completed just 19 of his 38 passes for 229 yards and an interception while facing constant pressure from the Patriots' defensive front in the defeat, taking four sacks and hitting the turf countless times as New England's defense overwhelmed what has been a good Los Angeles offensive line for most of the year.
The Rams had a chance to tie the game late, but Goff lofted up a lazy pass to Brandin Cooks near the end zone which was easily picked off by Patriots cornerback Stephon Gilmore, essentially sealing a win for New England. T
he Pats would tack on a field goal at the end of the ensuing drive to take a 10-point lead with under two minutes remaining.
On the season, Goff threw for 4,688 yards, 32 touchdowns and 12 picks.
