The New York Giants traded star wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. to the Cleveland Browns earlier this week, receiving a first-round draft pick, a third-rounder and young safety Jabrill Peppers in return.

However, before the Giants dealt Beckham to the Browns, they held discussions with the San Francisco 49ers, but the 49ers backed out because New York's asking price was too steep.

How steep, you ask? Well, according to Jay Glazer of The Athletic, the Giants were asking for the No. 2 overall pick in the draft, an asset that San Francisco was not willing to surrender.

What we don't know is exactly what the 49ers offered, but, obviously, whatever it was, the Giants did not feel it was as good as the Browns' offer, which featured the No. 17 overall pick.

It's also important to keep in mind that the Niners are a fellow NFC team, and New York probably wanted to do whatever it could to ship Beckham out of the conference. Taking that into consideration, San Francisco likely would have had to make an offer that was considerably better than Cleveland's in order for Big Blue to have traded him to the Bay.

Of course, this isn't the first time we have heard of the 49ers' interest in Beckham. Glazer pointed this out, as well, stating that not only did San Francisco attempt to nab the wide out this past week, but it also tried to trade for him during the season.

Regardless, none of that matters anymore, as Beckham is now a Brown.
