The New York Giants' defense got shredded in their season-opening loss to the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday, giving up 35 points and surrendering 494 yards of total offense.

But linebacker Alec Ogletree still thinks the Giants have it in them to be a top 10 defense in the NFL like he proclaimed in training camp:

“No, it doesn’t,” Ogletree said when asked if the Week 1 performance made him back off of his claim, per John Fennelly of Giants Wire. “Like I said, it’s a long season and this is one game. We have the right people, we have the right scheme and everything. It’s just a matter of going out there and doing it. You can’t talk about it, you have to go out and do it, and we definitely are going to do that. My confidence hasn’t been shaken in our defense. I know we have a great defense here, and it’s just a matter of us doing it, and doing it on Sunday.”

For New York to have a “great” defense, it is going to have to improve drastically on basically everything following its disastrous outing this past weekend.

The Giants gave Dak Prescott all of the time in the world to throw the football, failing to log a single sack as Prescott threw four touchdown passes. They also allowed the Cowboys to go 6-for-10 on third downs.

Luckily, New York will face a much easier opponent next Sunday, when the Giants head home to play host to the Buffalo Bills in their home opener, but even Josh Allen and the Bills will carve up this defense if it doesn't show marked improvement from Week 1.

For reference, the Giants ranked 24th in total defense last year.
