New York Giants starting quarterback Daniel Jones has been putting in some work this offseason. In fact, according to reports, Jones is looking quite ripped and has been gaining some muscles with the help of former Duke quarterback Anthony Boone during the quarantine break .
“He will look more cut-up,’’ Boone told New York Post.
Boone, who's employed by quarterback training and development outfit QB Country, has been working with the Giants sophomore extensively during the spring break. The quarterback-turned-trainer said that Jones has gained almost 10 pounds through their training program, which involved extra time in the weight room and extra servings in the dinner table back home in North Carolina.
“He’s done a good job of putting together a good physique,’’ Boone said of the Giants youngster. “At the end of the day he wanted to get stronger and get a little more meat on his bones but still maintain being able to run and move around and being on the field the whole time. Not ‘I’ve put on too much weight and I get short-winded now.’ His thing was make sure he could stay mobile, agile and be out on the field the whole time.’’
Daniel Jones has shown flashes of his athletic ability in his rookie year with the Giants, displaying his flexibility as a signal-caller and being able to escape pressure and sacks. Gaining more muscle will be beneficial for the 23 year old, as it would help him absorb more contact without losing the ball and his team's possession — something he struggled with quite a bit in his first year in the league.
Right now, the timeline of the Giants' training camp is still a bit unsure given the developments of COVID-19. Hopefully though, we get to see the new and improved Jones take the field within the next few weeks.
