It seems like the New York Giants' quarterback situation has more questions than answers, and even the players are confused. With Daniel Jones officially being benched, Tommy DeVito was named the starting quarterback. Drew Lock, who has been listed as the No. 2 quarterback throughout the season, was asked at practice about being passed over by DeVito for the starting spot.

“That's a question that I might still have for myself. It was expressed to me that I was going to be the 2. Interesting situation,” Lock said.

It is definitely an interesting situation because signs would point toward Lock starting, but head coach Brian Daboll had other plans.

Giants go with Tommy DeVito instead of Drew Lock as new QB1

Brian Daboll shared why he made the decision to go with Tommy DeVito as the new starting quarterback for the team.

“After evaluating a bunch of things and looking at a lot of tape,” Daboll said. “And being around Tommy last year where he created a little bit of a spark for us. That's the reason why we're going with Tommy. (Quarterback) Drew (Lock) will be the backup. Continue to work with him. He's been nothing but a pro and as was Daniel. It's never an easy conversation to have with the players.”

ESPN's NFL insider Adam Schefter noted that last year, the Giants went with DeVito as the quarterback, and he won them a few games. Even though that sounds good, it knocked them out of the potential to get some of the top quarterbacks in the draft.

“When they went to Tommy DeVito last year, the irony of this all is that he went on a 3-game win streak last year, ripped off 3 wins,” Schefter said. “As great as those 3 wins were at the time, they knocked the Giants out of the Top 5 picks. And denied them the chance to go draft Jayden Daniels and Drake Maye.”
