New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning shared some fond memories of the late Jared Lorenzen who died Wednesday. Both came to the Giants in 2004, but took quite the different path to get there. Manning was the first overall pick and traded from the then-San Diego Chargers, while Lorenzen was an undrafted free agent who had to fight to make the team.
Lorenzen was the backup for Manning when the Giants won the 2007 Super Bowl and the future Hall of Famer called him a great teammate.
“Jared was a great teammate and friend,” Manning said in a statement via Pro Football Talk. “We competed against each other in college and came to the Giants together in 2004. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family. I will always remember his competitive spirit and his good nature. Jared has left us all way too soon.”
The Giants also released a statement thanking him for his time with the team and sending their thoughts to his family.
“Jared was a special person, and a beloved Giant,” the Giants said in a statement. “He was an important member of our 2007 team, one that created its own destiny. Our thoughts are with Jared’s family and friends who loved and appreciated him so much. Just as our organization and our fans did.”
Lorenzen appeared in four games in his career with the Giants going 4-8 passing for 28 yards. He was a beloved part of the Giants locker room and our thoughts are with his family.
