Dallas Cowboys defensive end has not been shy about expressing his opinion regarding quarterback Eli Manning's lackluster play in recent years. It seems head coach Jason Garrett does not share the same opinion.

Garrett has gotten well-acquainted with facing off against Manning over the years. According to Dan Benton of the Giants Wire, he still thinks he is an elite quarterback:

“Eli has been one of the great players at that position throughout his career. His resume speaks for itself,” Garrett said during a conference call with Giants reporters. “We’ve had the chance to compete against him a couple times a year for a long time, and he’s a great football player. He’s a great ambassador to the National Football League and has been so great for the Giants organization and for the NFL throughout those 16 years.

“I hold him to the highest regard. He’s been a really good player for a long time, and there’s no question in our mind that he still is. He’s an elite quarterback.”

This is certainly some high praise coming from Garrett. Of course, he has been the head coach in Dallas long enough to know what Manning is capable of. It is safe to say that he will not be overlooking the veteran in the 2019 NFL season opener.

Despite Garrett's compliments, one would be hard-pressed to find many that agree with the notion of Manning being an elite quarterback. It is no secret that he has struggled to find his footing in recent years. Meanwhile, the arrival of his future successor in quarterback Daniel Jones has only raised more speculation regarding his future under center.

Regardless, it is clear that Garrett is continuing to take every precaution he would against an elite quarterback. He is hoping Lawrence does the same.
