The New York Giants managed to secure a potential successor under center through the 2019 NFL Draft with the addition of quarterback Daniel Jones. This has resulted in even further speculation regarding Manning's future.
Manning has now essentially been thrust into a mentorship role with the player he will be competing with moving forward. According to Dan Schneier of 247 Sports, he is focused on doing what he can to help the Giants improve in the 2019 NFL season:
“Mindset is I have to go do my job, I have to compete and make plays,” Manning said after the second minicamp practice when asked if he viewed the Jones situation as a full-blown competition. “That’s what you are trying to do. Every day at practice, just trying to make good decisions and make the plays that are there to be made. Be focused and ready to do that and also help out everybody else in the quarterback room, receiver room. Get everybody else prepared to play as well.
Manning added that he feels the same sense of motivation to compete regardless of Jones' arrival.

You work hard to do that and you deserve to win games and for the team to win games. That’s what driving you to work hard in the off-season and compete every day in practice.”
It is encouraging to see that Manning is optimistic despite all the changes that have been made in New York this offseason. Although they managed to bring in Jones, not much was done to make improvements to the offense from a personnel standpoint. There are still concerns about his protection up front. Meanwhile, they lost some serious firepower in the receiving corps with the departure of Odell Beckham Jr. this offseason.
Regardless, Manning will be tasked with serving as a competent option under center while the Giants continue to work on Jones' development. While they would ideally like to take their time with his progression, that could very well change if the veteran continues to struggle in 2019.
