Former New York Giants quarterback Jared Lorenzen passed away on Wednesday at the age of 38 years old, his mother told Russ Dinallo of E:60 in a text.
Lorenzen had been dealing with health complications for quite some time.
Lorenzen, who played his collegiate football at the University of Kentucky, landed with the Giants as an undrafted free agent in 2006 and instantly became a fan favorite because of his massive size at 6-foot-4 and 285 pounds.
He spent just two years in New York and only threw eight passes on the NFL level, but he became somewhat of an icon due to the fact that men his size typically don't get to play quarterback in the NFL. He was also a member of the Giants team that won the Super Bowl during the 2007-08 campaign.
Lorenzen last appeared in the NFL during the summer of 2008 with the Indianapolis Colts, but he was waived during the final round of roster cuts heading into that season.

After his playing career ended, Lorenzen had a long battle with obesity to the point that he once weighed over 500 pounds. He would proceed to lose 100 pounds by April 2018, and his story was then documented on ESPN.
However, over the last year, Lorenzen's health deteriorated, as heart and kidney problems began to plague him.
Lorenzen is Kentucky's all-time leader in passing yards and completions.
