The New York Giants lost to the Los Angeles Chargers 37-21 last week, though the game wasn't nearly as close as the score implies. The Giants defense struggled to contain Chargers star Justin Herbert, who dissected New York's unit to the tune of 375 yards and three touchdowns. Giants safety Logan Ryan earned some respect in the locker room with a brutally honest assessment of his performance against Herbert and Los Angeles ahead of New York's clash against the Dallas Cowboys.

“I felt like I just didn’t track the ball well,” Ryan said at the time. “It’s just very frustrating. I’m frustrated with myself. As a pro athlete you have to make split second decisions and you get judged on them and I didn’t make the right one there. I’m frustrated for my teammates. I’m frustrated for the coaches.

Clearly, Giants safety Logan Ryan took the loss to Justin Herbert and the Chargers hard.

Ryan was referring to a 59-yard touchdown pass from Herbert to Los Angeles wideout Jalen Guyton, in which Guyton split in between Ryan and fellow Giants safety Xavier McKinney for the score.

The Giants veteran knows that in the business of the NFL, players have to make split-second decisions- like the one he made against Herbert and the Chargers- and are sometimes wrong, which he joked that he is able to do much more easily after being married!

Ryan admitting his mistake against Herbert, who deserves credit for not trying to do too much and making the right play for Los Angeles, goes a long way in the New York locker room.

It shows Ryan's accountability and drive to win, qualities that need to be present on a team like the Giants, who are on their way towards their fifth straight losing season.

Ryan's admission of his mistake against Herbert and the Chargers was not lost on head coach Joe Judge and wideout Sterling Shepard, who both cited it as a teachable moment for younger players on the team, as well as a team-first move that sets an example for everyone else in the organization.

Of course, Ryan also made it a note to compliment his opponent, Justin Herbert, who is a rising star for the Chargers. The Giants safety showed his true character by not only owning up to a mistake but commending his opponent for a job well done.
