The New York Giants are bringing in tight end Scott Simonson to give the team some depth, according to Matt Lombardo of NJ Advance Media.

Simonson was released by the Giants with an injury settlement after suffering a high ankle sprain in the team's preseason finale against the New England Patriots. This move makes sense because he already has a good understanding of the Giants offense and it shouldn't take him long to get up to speed.

The Giants have suffered a lot of injuries this season and the tight end position has taken a big hit the last couple of weeks. Evan Engram missed the team's last game against the New York Jets with a mid-foot sprain and it's unclear how long he is expected to miss. Backup tight end Rhett Ellison suffered a concussion against the Jets and is in the concussion protocol.

The only healthy tight ends on the Giants' roster right now are Simonson and rookie Kalen Smith, so even if the other guys will be healthy, they needed another tight end for practice.

After going undrafted during the 2014 NFL Draft, Simonson signed as a free agent with the Oakland Raiders. He has played in 34 games in his career including in all 16 games last year with the Giants.

It's been a disappointing season so far for the Giants as they currently sit with a 2-8 record. They are on a bye week right now and they hope that some changes can be made that can help them string some wins together before the end of the season.
