The New York Giants foresee outside linebacker Markus Golden becoming one of their defense's focal points.

In fact, Giants outside linebackers coach Mike Dawson spoke highly of Golden to the New York Post's Paul Schwartz on May 25 (via Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio).

He's a double-digit sack guy. Once you guys watch him train and watch the way he plays, and you go back and watch his pre-injury film, just the way he's all over the field in the run game and the pass game.

When the ball is down the field, he's backside chasing that thing like a madman. That intensity and that level of effort he plays with is going to lead to production with him.

Schwartz agrees. He believes a healthy Golden “can lead his new team in sacks.” Golden replaces Olivier Vernon (who was part of the Odell Backham, Jr. trade to the Cleveland Browns in March) in the Giants' starting lineup.

Golden sustained a torn ACL injury early in the 2017 NFL season. The injury affected his play with the Arizona Cardinals the following year. He made just 11 starts and finished with only 2.5 sacks, per Schwartz.

Nonetheless, Golden feels good about the upcoming 2019 NFL season with the Giants. He has gotten rid of the knee brace he wore last season. Golden should thrive in New York's 3-4 defense. He and Lorenzo Carter will be the Giants' primary edge rushers in 2019.

Expect a healthy Golden to reclaim his status as one of the NFL's premier pass rushers in 2019.
