The New York Giants have begun to discuss an extension with Pro Bowl wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. to work out a deal that will keep him with the team for the long haul well beyond the 2018 season.

In light of this recent progress forward, Beckham Jr. has voiced that he is optimistic about a new contract being hammered out with the Giants, according to Jeremy Bergman of NFL.com.

“They'll get it done when they get it done,” Beckham told reporters. “Let my agent and them figure it out.

“Optimistic? Yeah, I'm optimistic. It'll all work itself out. Life always does.”

Throughout the entire offseason, Beckham Jr. has remained firm on wanting to stay with the Giants long-term, but the team had yet to dive into extension talks with the 25-year-old. Despite that being the case, he had never truly considered taking the approach of holding out in hopes of getting a new deal sooner as he has used the offseason workouts and training camp to prove that he's progressing quite well in his recovery from his surgically-repaired ankle.

In fact, he has shown to have the same athletic ability that has given the Giants a strong reason to believe that Beckham Jr. will be back on the field to start the 2018 season. When healthy, he has certainly proven to be a game-changing factor in the passing game as one of the top wide receivers in the league.

This saw him become the first player in league history to notch at least 90 catches for 1,300 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns over his first three seasons. He was well on his way to possibly adding a fourth straight season reaching that mark before suffering a broken ankle.

Nonetheless, it appears that things are certainly heading in the right direction toward Beckham Jr. having a new lucrative long-term deal in place in the near future.
