The New York Giants took on the Cleveland Browns in their second game of the preseason on Monday night.

While nothing was on the line, there was a potentially breath-holding moment as Odell Beckham Jr. suffered an ankle injury that forced him to exit the game after being tackled on his lower left leg. In spite of that, the star wideout received encouraging news ,as the x-rays came back negative and he was merely diagnosed with an ankle sprain.

The Giants dodged a huge bullet with their Pro Bowl wide receiver, as it could have easily been a far worse injury given the violent nature of the tackle. This should likely take him out of the rest of the preseason, with eyes toward having him ready to go by the season opener on September 10th against the Dallas Cowboys.

Through his first three seasons in the league, Beckham Jr. has established himself as one of the premier wide receivers. He has broken numerous NFL records along the way while topping 90 catches, 1,300 receiving yards, and 10 touchdowns in each campaign.

One of the biggest storylines following Beckham Jr. as he heads into his fourth season is his contract situation. He's set to enter the fourth year of his rookie deal worth $3.3 million, with the signing bonus included. The Giants have already picked up his $8.4 million fifth-year option for the 2018 season and have expressed interest in signing him to a lucrative contract.

If he continues his upward trajectory this upcoming season, it could force the Giants' hand to ink him to a new long-term deal before he hits the open market.
