There are a number of intriguing one-on-one matchups taking place in Week 1 of the 2018 NFL season. However, they all pale in comparison to the showdown between New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. and Jacksonville Jaguars cornerback Jalen Ramsey.
It is safe to assume that things could get heated between these two uber-competitive players. According to Paul Schwartz of the New York Post, Beckham does not expect things to get out of hand:
“I don’t want to say I’m a different person but I have different outlooks and perspectives on things,’’ Beckham said. “I’ve had a lot happen and you take it and learn and grow from it.’’
Of course, this is a bold statement from Beckham. It may be difficult to gauge the degree in which he plans to tone things down. However, it would be fair to take his expectations with a grain of salt. It goes without saying that Beckham and Ramsey are two of the most charismatic players in the NFL. As overly-passionate as they may be at times, they are undoubtedly top players at their respective positions.
Beckham has gotten into his fair share of disputes with opposing defenders over the years, most notably with Washington Redskins cornerback Josh Norman. The two had a memorable spat back when Norman was with the Carolina Panthers, although they both have seemingly managed to bury the hatchet since then.
Meanwhile, Ramsey has managed to ruffle a few feathers en route to becoming one of the best shutdown corners in the league. He made headlines after his altercation with Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver A.J. Green last season. The fact that he managed to spur the mild-mannered Green into throwing blows is a feat within itself. Regardless, it will be interesting to see how often Beckham and Ramsey get matched up across from each other this Sunday.
