New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. has reportedly threatened to hold out if he doesn’t get a new contract. However, new Giants head coach Pat Shurmur still expects to see his star wideout when the team’s offseason workouts begin next month.

Beckham, who is still recovering from a broken ankle which cost him most of last season, is entering the final year of his rookie contract. He would be subject to fines if he misses any of the team’s the mandatory workouts.

It’s certainly not out of the question that Beckham does go through with his threat to hold out in order to get a big new deal. The same goes with the possibility of the Giants up and trading Beckham, although it’s unlikely that they do so without first trying everything they can to work out a deal with him.

Obviously, Shurmur would prefer to spend his first season in New York with the star wideout at his disposal. Even with all the distractions that he brings along with him at times, OBJ is without a doubt one of the very best receivers in the league when he’s at his best. If Shurmur is to be successful in his first year in New York, Beckham will likely need to be a big factor in that success.

But despite his current positivity regarding the situation, Shurmur will still have to wait and see how this whole Beckham saga plays out, from offseason workouts and beyond.
