There has been plenty of speculation about the New York Giants hosting a fire sale ahead of the trade deadline. However, it appears that head coach Pat Shurmur does not expect it to pertain to quarterback Eli Manning.

With the trade deadline a week away, there are rumors about a potential change under center. According to ESPN's Jordan Raanan, Shurmur indicated that Manning will remain at quarterback after the deadline:

The New York Giants aren't expecting a quarterback change through the impending trade deadline or bye week.

“Yes, I do,” Shurmur said. “I think Eli will be our quarterback. He has been and he will continue to be here. I don't know how that will play into the Eli Apple trade.”

It is no secret that the Giants have hit rock bottom once again. Reports have now surfaced about them fielding offers on a number of players. They solidified that notion by trading cornerback Eli Apple to the New Orleans Saints. However, that does not seem to be the case for those hoping to bring in some fresh blood under center.

Shurmur's decision to stick with Manning should come as no surprise. He expressed full confidence in the veteran when he took the job. He even passed on a number of potential successors in the 2018 NFL Draft by selecting running back Saquon Barkley with the No. 2 overall pick.

Although Barkley has been every bit the workhorse they wanted, it is clear that the offense will not go anywhere until they get better play from the quarterback. It appears Shurmur is hoping Manning can make a drastic improvement in the second half of the season.
