The New York Giants selected former Washburn defensive back Corey Ballentine in the sixth round of the 2019 NFL Draft. However, what initially served as one of the more memorable moments in his life, quickly turned tragic as Ballentine was shot shortly after coming off the board to the Giants.

Ballentine has since returned to the field, though, as Art Stapleton of NorthJersey.com reports the rookie is practicing at Giants' OTAs just one month after encountering the aforementioned gunshot wound.

“He’s doing what he can do,” Giants head coach Pat Shurmur said, via NorthJersey.com. “He looked good moving around and he’s getting better each day.”

Ballentine participated in 11-on-11 drills alongside the team's third-team defense while making strides each and every day so it seems.

“Explosive, NFL-caliber athlete with outstanding speed and plus short-area quickness to match routes and drive on throws,” reads his 2019 NFL Draft profile on NFL.com. “Ballentine's long speed, play strength and twitch will be coveted by teams looking for man-cover talent. While he could find early reps as a plus special teams performer, his trip to the Senior Bowl should give teams an early indication of how quickly he can acclimate to a step up in competition in coverage.”
