The New York Giants defeated the Washington Redskins by a score of 24-3 on Sunday afternoon, but the win came at a cost.

According to Jordan Raanan of ESPN, Giants rookie linebacker Ryan Connelly is believed to have suffered a torn ACL in his right knee. He will undergo more tests on Monday morning.

Connelly had a terrific game on Sunday, logging five tackles, a sack and an interception. On the season overall, he has totaled 20 tackles, a sack and a couple of picks.

The 23-year-old, who played his collegiate football at the University of Wisconsin, was selected by New York in the fifth round (143rd pick overall) of the NFL Draft back in April.

He spent four years at Wisconsin, arriving at the school in 2015. He did not begin to get significant playing time until his sophomore season, when he registered 59 tackles, seven tackles for loss, an interception, a fumble recovery and a defensive touchdown.

Connelly then had a breakout year of sorts during his junior campaign, racking up 88 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, three sacks, a pick, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. He went on to post nearly identical numbers in his senior year, finishing with 89 stops, 10 tackles for loss, three sacks and a forced fumble.

The Giants got off to an 0-2 start on the season, but after Week 2, they switched from Eli Manning to rookie Daniel Jones at quarterback, and the results have been very positive.

New York got things started with a 32-31 comeback win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last week before routing the Redskins this past weekend to improve to 2-2 and move to within one game of the Dallas Cowboys for first place in the NFC East.
