The New York Giants are still in the midst of a grueling rebuild going into the 2019 NFL season. Regardless, it appears expectations are as high as ever for running back Saquon Barkley.

There has not been much hype surrounding the Giants these days. According to Dan Duggan of The Athletic, Barkley is still convinced that New York will make the playoffs.

“C'mon man. I know why people may not think (that), but yes. I'm going to confidently say yes … I know we lost a lot of great talent. At the end of the day, it's about a team.”

Barkley's comments should come as no surprise. He has kept an optimistic outlook on all of the Giants' struggles since his arrival last year. Although the team has taken a few steps back since then, he is still as hopeful as ever.

Unfortunately, it is safe to say that his goals for the postseason may be a bit far-fetched at this point. It is no secret that New York has ushered in some significant changes this offseason. The Giants finished the 2018 campaign with a 5-11 record and have since parted ways with one of the best wide receivers in the NFL in Odell Beckham Jr., after trading him to the Cleveland Browns in March. There is little reason to believe that they have somehow gotten better after all that has transpired.

Their odds to make the playoffs are also hindered by the presence of two formidable NFC East rivals in the Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles. Even if Saquon Barkley managed to top his stellar rookie campaign, the team as a whole will need to step up their game if they hope to make playoffs.
