The New York Giants finally found their future successor under center in quarterback Daniel Jones. It seems running back Saquon Barkley already has high hopes for his new teammate.
The Giants have caught plenty of flak for picking Jones over the other quarterbacks that were still on the board in the 2019 NFL Draft. According to Ralph Vacchiano of SNY, Barkley says it the critics will quickly change their stance once they win a couple of Super Bowls.
“When he wins two Super Bowls everyone's going to be like, ‘He was the greatest pick of all time.’”
It is clear that Barkley is referencing what quarterback Eli Manning was able to do in his career with the Giants. One of the most notable aspects about Jones is his likeness to Manning. His teammates are hoping that it will also pertain to winning championships as well.
Barkley certainly knows a thing or two about dealing with the naysayers. The Giants were criticized last offseason for taking him with the No. 2 overall pick while they were still in desperate need of a future franchise quarterback. He quickly vindicated the decision by earning Offensive Rookie of the Year honors as the workhorse in New York both now and moving forward.
More importantly, the Giants were finally able to find a suitable replacement for Manning in the near future. Saquon Barkley has already managed to beef up the run game and the onus will be on Jones to lead the offense in the near future. Only time will if the star back's prediction comes to fruition.
