New York Giants rookie running back Saquon Barkley’s hamstring injury doesn’t seem too serious, but it’s still left him feeling pretty frustrated.

According to Paul Schwartz of the New York Post, Barkley believes he could have done more to prevent suffering that “tweak” in the first place.

“I wasn’t scared because I knew it wasn’t nothing crazy. I just felt frustrated because a lot of those things are preventative and it’s about taking care of your body and treating your body. Make sure you are hydrated and stuff. I thought I was doing all of those things right, but this just shows you that even when you think you’re doing enough, you have to find a way to do more.”

It’s pretty surprising to hear a rookie beating himself up over a pretty minor injury. No one else would’ve blamed Barkley for tweaking his hamstring, which could’ve happened to anyone at any time considering the circumstances with which it happened.

But it just speaks to Barkley’s desire to be better that he has the mindset of doing even more to take care of his body. And even though he’s not quite at 100 percent, he says it won’t stop him from continuing to work on improving his body.

Barkley would be wise to heed Odell Beckham Jr.’s advice to take his time to heal up from that hamstring injury instead of needlessly pushing himself and risking exacerbating his injury. But still, it’s exciting to see how Barkley has reacted to this minor setback, which bodes well for the future.
