New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. was up for a trade from the team but didn't get traded because the New England Patriots expressed interest.
According to PFT Live (via NBC Sports), it took the interest of New England to convince New York to keep their star player on deck.
“The Giants came close to trading receiver Odell Beckham Jr. last year. And then they didn’t trade him. So what happened? As Chris Simms explained on Monday’s PFT Live, New England’s interest in Beckham ultimately caused the Giants to think twice. Basically, if the Patriots saw something in Beckham that would have caused them to give up significant trade compensation and to cough up a significant second contract even though he’d never previously played for the Patriots, the Giants should be more inclined to keep him around.”
One can only imagine how things would have gone if Beckham joined the lineup of coach Bill Belichick, offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels, and quarterback Tom Brady providing the kind of structure, support, and (ultimately) success of the team.
NBC Sports speculates that this lineup would have helped make sure that Beckham didn't have the kind of outbursts that, unfortunately, he's become known for on Big Blue.
Interestingly, Beckham made the news recently because he left a comment on Tom Brady's Instagram, which left the Twitter-verse in a total frenzy. It brought back a lot of “what if's” for the savvier amongst us and makes us wonder if there's still a chance that Beckham might join the Patriots after all.
