It appears that the New York Giants have their sights solely set on one candidate to be their next head coach: Minnesota Vikings offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur. NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport reported on Monday that the G-Men are expected to hire Shurmur as their new head coach.

However, Shurmur is not allowed to negotiate or sign a contract with the Giants until the Vikings are officially eliminated from the playoffs or go on to win Super Bowl LII in early February.
The Vikings, who will travel to Lincoln Financial Field on Sunday to take on the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC Championship game, are fresh off of a miraculous last-second 29-24 win over the New Orleans Saints.
Shurmur, who has really become a hot candidate amongst teams in search of a new head coach for the 2018 season, continues to get a lot of praise around the league for his exceptional development of Vikings quarterback Case Keenum and wide receiver Adam Thielen into two of the NFL's greatest success stories this season.
If and when he is hired as the head coach of the Giants, it will mark his second stint as an NFL head coach. Beginning in 2011, Shurmur spent two seasons as head coach of the Cleveland Browns before he was fired after he compiled a 9-23 record. After he spent 2013-2015 as the Eagles' offensive coordinator, Shurmur interviewed for the Philly head coaching job but was beaten out by their current head coach, Doug Pederson. He can get some revenge on the organization this Sunday.
