The Alabama connection that defined college football in 2020 is showing off at the Crimson Tide's Pro Day on Tuesday in Tuscaloosa. Heisman Trophy winner and star Crimson Tide receiver DeVonta Smith did in fact elect to catch passes for quarterback Mac Jones despite still nursing a broken finger suffered in the national title game. He and Jones got up to some old tricks.
The star quarterback-receiver duo hit on a big deep ball with coaches and executives watching closely.

Interestingly, Jones' Pro Day falls on the same day as Ohio State star signal-caller Justin Fields, who also made headlines by running a blistering 4.44 40-yard dash.
Jones and Fields could very well be vying for the No. 3 overall selection in the 2021 NFL draft.
Article Continues BelowThe Jacksonville Jaguars appear set to take Clemson star Trevor Lawrence. It is also becoming increasingly likely the New York Jets select BYU quarterback Zach Wilson after a huge showing at his own Pro Day this past weekend.
That means Jones, Fields, and Trey Lance could all be on the board when the San Francisco 49ersâfresh off a deal to move them up nine spotsâare on the clock with the No. 3 pick.
Smith also finds himself jockeying for draft position in a loaded wide receiver group. Fellow Alabama wideout Jaylen Waddle could be one of the top wideouts off the board, with LSU star Ja'Marr Chase and Florida tight end Kyle Pitts also regarded as two of the top players in the class.
It was connections like the one above that helped Jones and Smith elevate their respective draft standings. How high will they go next month? Time will tell.
