Could Antonio Brown be making his return to the NFL sooner rather than later?
Despite a hectic offseason—and August and September—in which Brown found himself moving teams twice, earning a sexual assault civil suit and generally losing plenty of fans and league-wide interest, CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora believes Brown will be back in 2019.
According to his league sources, La Canfora reports that several teams “are keeping a close eye” on Brown, and “a return to the NFL after the trade deadline would not come as a surprise.”
Brown is currently trying to recoup $30 million in lost salary from the Oakland Raiders and New England Patriots. In addition, he is under the watchful eye of the NFL for his acts off the field. If he were to return, there is a possibility that the league would place him on the commissioner's exempt list.
According to La Canfora:
“He [Brown] has kept a lower profile in recent weeks, however, and there are a handful of contending teams fairly desperate and motivated to upgrade at the receiver spot, and Brown's name has come up in internal discussions in several personnel meetings, sources said.”
La Canfora notes that Brown will not find a team until after the Oct. 29th trade deadline. With the wide receiver being a position many are clamoring to find options for, teams are expected to opt into finding a safer option on the trade market before considering bringing in the polarizing Brown.
Nonetheless, the All-Pro wide receiver may eventually find a home after all.
