After ESPN poached Joe Buck from Fox Sports to become the lead announcer for Monday Night Football, Fox got hard at work looking to find a suitable replacement. Buck had been in his role for 20 years, so finding someone to fill his void was no easy task. After deliberating a while, the network announced that Kevin Burkhardt would be stepping up and taking over as head NFL analyst for the network. After hearing the news of his replacement, Buck took to Twitter to share his excitement for his good friend Burkhardt and the opportunity he had earned.

Buck had immense congratulations for his buddy Burkhardt, wishing him the best of luck in his new role and telling him to “go kill it.” Now that Buck has moved on to ESPN, the chair long occupied by the 52-year-old has finally opened up, and Burkhardt is hoping to make it his own for the foreseeable future.

ESPN poached both Buck and Troy Aikman for their Monday Night Football broadcast, landing two of the top broadcasters in sports media. Buck certainly leaves behind some huge shoes to fill, but Burkhardt seems ready for the task.

Previously, Burkhardt served as one of the play-by-play voices for the NFL on Fox, and also covered MLB's Tampa Bay Rays on Fox Sports Sun. Prior to landing at Fox, Burkhardt worked his way up as a beat reporter for the New York Mets from 2007-14. Landing this seat is a huge break for Burkhardt, and clearly, Buck is fired up for his longtime buddy over his next big opportunity.
