The NFL is set to enter a new league year next Wednesday. Even as national fervor has escalated exponentially over the past 48 hours surrounding the Coronavirus being deemed a global pandemic, the league has “no plans to move the start of the league year,” ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.

It's fair to note that the start of a new league year merely entails semantic situations, as opposed to mass gatherings, which have recently seen a widespread limitation all across the country. The NFL entering a new year next Wednesday hasn't stopped multiple teams (Washington and the New York Jets included) from grounding their coaching and scouting staff from travel, even as pro days for college players ahead of the NFL Draft are still scheduled to take place.

The biggest coin to drop when the league's new year begins has to do with the free agency market. Multiple players are in line to see significant paydays, while quarterbacks will dominate the conversation with longtime New England Patriot Tom Brady reportedly seriously considering playing elsewhere for the first time in his career.

The NBA and MLS have already made the decision to suspend their seasons — which are currently taking place — for the time being. MLB is facing the possibility of a similar scenario, with games later in March set to be affected one way or the other. But for now, the NFL is standing pat. The situation is fluid and can change on a whim, but the league plans to kick off 2020 officially next Wednesday.
