From the gridiron to nine-irons — Tony Romo has announced that he will compete at the PGA Tour later in March, per a new report.
NBC Sports has broken the news about golf's newest celebrity competitor yesterday. The former Dallas Cowboys quarterback is the third sponsor exemption, who will head over to the Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship in the Dominican Republic later this month to compete in the tournament.
While this may seem like a surprising turn of events for the current CBS Sports analyst, Tony Romo said in a statement that he's actually pursuing a longtime passion of his by participating in the long-respected golf tournament.
“Golf has been a passion of mine throughout my life, giving me another athletic outlet to hone my skills and compete. The opportunity to compete at the highest levels of golf, the PGA Tour event, was a dream come true for me. I’m thankful to the Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship for inviting me to join them once again this year, and I’m excited at the chance to compete against the best of the best.”
Additionally, this isn't the first time that Tony Romo has competed in a golf competition, either. In addition to winning the American Century Championship at Lake Tahoe last July, Romo played in the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am with pro partner Jim Furyk in February, but ultimately withdrew before the third round to attend Wade Wilson’s funeral.
On the football side, Romo ranks sixth for most consecutive NFL games (38) with a touchdown pass.
