The Green Bay Packers have clinched the NFC's first seed… again. Their thirteenth win against the Minnesota Vikings ensured that they'll be having a significant amount of rest entering their second-round matchup. For most people, that would a godsend and a great way of recovering after a grueling 18-week season.
Not for Davante Adams, though. The Packers wide receiver would rather play in their final regular-season game against the Detroit Lions. When asked why, he responded with: (via Rob Demovsky)
“Having two weeks off — to each his own — I wouldn’t want to do that.”
If it’s up to Davante Adams, he’ll play in the regular season finale next week at DET.

Joked that he needs to play next week because he needs 21 yards to break Jordy Nelson’s single-season team record. pic.twitter.com/MwelastJmy

In addition, Davante Adams jokingly said that he'd want to play next week to break Jordy Nelson's single-season receiving yards record for the Packers.
It's easy to see where Adams is coming from with his comments. While some people may appreciate a two-week rest before a big game, the Packers star seems to be the type of player that relies on “feel” and keeping his proverbial engine warm. Having a two-week rest could also mean a team starting to get rusty after a prolonged period of non-competitive practice.
Regardless, resting Adams, Aaron Rodgers, and the rest of the key Packers starters is important in Week 18. The last thing a contending team needs is an unfortunate injury in a completely meaningless game. Adams may object to this, but it's the better play in the long run for the Packers.
They'll need all of their starters fresh, too. The Packers may have had three straight 13-win seasons (a first in the NFL), but their problems lie in the NFC championship game. Better preparation into that pivotal game might be the push this team needs to get a Super Bowl win.
