The Los Angeles Rams endured a massive blow to their Super Bowl hopes before the season even started, when starting running back Cam Akers tore his Achilles during training camp. The Rams have navigated the season well without Akers, as they sit at 12-4 and very much in play for a championship. Akers has been working hard to return this season, something that was thought to be impossible when the injury occurred. With the star halfback miraculously nearing a return to the field, Rams head coach Sean McVay made a statement about Akers' Week 18 status that will fire up Los Angeles fans.

Rams head coach Sean McVay, who said last week that he felt Cam Akers would be good to go against the San Francisco 49ers in Week 18, said that he thinks the star halfback is ready to play.

Not only that, but McVay said that the Rams are “operating with the expectation that Cam Akers is going to make his season debut this week.” No one would have expected that after they heard the Akers injury news back in training camp.

While it could be a good idea to sit Akers and ensure his health heading into the playoffs, it's more important for the second-year pro to get some regular season reps in and shake off the rust, as it's been a year since he's seen game action.

Akers, who ran for 90-plus yards in three of his last five games last year, showed the capabilities of a lead back down the stretch.

With the playoffs around the corner, Sean McVay and the Rams will get to have star running back Cam Akers back in action.
