Free agent cornerback Stephon Gilmore reportedly had a “great visit” with the Indianapolis Colts on Wednesday, per Jordan Schultz.

The interest had been speculated for awhile before the two sides officially met this week. Gilmore spent last season with the Carolina Panthers after being traded from the Patriots. With a relatively young defensive back room, including Jaycee Horn, the Panthers seem unlikely to bring him back.

Gilmore still enjoyed a very good season, intercepting two passes to go along with two pass deflections in just eight games. Despite just three starts, he made the Pro Bowl game, the fifth of his career. While he's not what used to be, the South Carolina product seems to still have a bit left in the tank.

At age 31, 2022 will be Gilmore's 11th season in the NFL. In turn, he shouldn't demand too much money. It's been a pretty quiet offseason for Gilmore, although the Rams have reportedly reached out to him.

As for the potential fit with the Colts, it's one that certainly makes sense. With Rock Ya-Sin leaving to join the Raiders this offseason, it left an opening amongst the corners. While it remains a possibility for the Colts to address it at the draft, a guy like Stephon Gilmore is hard to pass up. He would join Kenny Moore, Xavier Rhodes, and Isaiah Rodgers in the cornerback room.

While nothing seems to be official or finalized yet, this seems to be trending in the direction of a deal getting done in the next few days.
