The NFL has been unquestioned the top-grossing professional sports league in the United States for quite some time. Verizon, on the other hand, is also good at making loot in the industry it operates in.

The two companies' dominance was further exemplified by the NFL and tech giant, with each agreeing to a monster multi-year sponsorship deal that will feature the  Verizon brand.

According to Darren Rovell of ESPN:

Verizon will pay approximately $2.5 billion in a five-year deal with the NFL, sources told ESPN. That would be roughly twice the annual price of Verizon's previous deal with the league.

Verizon's new deal with the NFL far expands the prior agreement with the company allowed to exclusively stream live in-market game on one of its websites such as Yahoo!. This content can be readily available to show through any of the phones, which will be followed by access granted to all tablets in 2018.

This deal helps the NFL take advantage of the progressive shift toward mobile devices being a large resource for the games being on streams. It is another way that the league can further make profit by marketing its product.

Although this new exclusive deal is in place, other rights holders such as ESPN will continue to be able to have their broadcast available to stream via computer through designated cable carriers that it is being accessed from. This new deal is a clear sign that the league is showing a willingness to adjust to the new era of viewing habits while continuing to make a massive amount of profit.
