In the aftermath of his controversial decision to back out of his agreement to become the Indianapolis Colts head coach, New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels was fired by his own agent, Bob LaMonte.
LaMonte did not appreciate the fact that McDaniels went back on his word with the Colts, and given how important LaMonte’s word apparently is to him, the loss of that trust in McDaniels' word meant there was no going back.
Coaches Agent Bob LaMonte confirmed to @SBJSBD that he has terminated his relationship with Josh McDaniels. "My word is my bond. Once you break that, there's nothing left," LaMonte said.

It obviously wasn’t the best look for LaMonte the deal-maker that McDaniels pulled the plug on their deal with the Colts at the last minute. But as an agent, it was his responsibility to do what was in the best interest of his client. If his client suddenly has a change of heart, then it’s his duty to follow suit.
It didn't shed LaMonte in the best light when he said McDaniels was making the biggest mistake of his career by turning his back on the Colts job. It's even more unbecoming of LaMonte to make a public spectacle out of ridding himself of his client and subsequently bash him publicly in order to preserve his reputation around the league.
There are surely details to this story which remain unknown to the public and the respective parties have their own version of it which best suits them. Whatever the real score is in this situation, the one thing that is clear is that LaMonte has well and truly burned his bridge with McDaniels, who has also likely lost a lot of people’s trust following this whole unfortunate saga.
