A disappointing season is going to be an understated way of describing how the 2021 NFL season went for the Seattle Seahawks, as they struggled to a 7-10 record. With things seemingly at a boiling point involving the futures of both Pete Carroll and Russell Wilson, the future of this team may look a lot different than it currently does.
The team’s commitment to having Carroll remain as this team’s head coach is not necessarily as solid as you would expect, and swirling trade rumors about Wilson’s next ‘destination’ that began during the season are expected to ramp back up again, clouding what needs to be a focused offseason for the front office in Seattle.
Safety Quandre Diggs and left tackle Duane Brown are the biggest free agents for the Seahawks to address this offseason, as both are members of units that are void of any real talent outside of them. Cap space really is not a big issue for Seattle (between $36 – $37 million in space), so being able to improve their team to once again compete in the tough NFC West division is in the realm of possibilities.

Seahawks Biggest Offseason Need
Offensive Line
From left to right tackle, the Seahawks had a starting offensive line unit of: Brown, Damien Lewis, Ethan Pocic, Gabe Jackson, and Brandon Shell. And with Brown, Pocic, and Shell all hitting the open market this offseason, an already-weak unit may get even worse.
Wilson was under pressure on 37 percent of his dropbacks this past season, putting near the top of the league in pressure rate, speaking to his frequent moments of inaccuracy and mistakes.
Article Continues BelowOf the three members that are free agents, Pocic should be the option they go after the most, seeing as how he is the youngest (26), and since he is the center, that may help boost Wilson’s spirits this offseason to want to remain with the Seahawks.
Having three members of a starting OL unit be free agents is easy for any team to deal with, but especially for a team like the Seahawks that seems to be stuck in a purgatory of sorts.
In free agency, the Seahawks have the money to take a big leap at one of the premier offensive linemen that are out on the market.
If wanting to focus on the interior of the line, Seattle would be smart to target guards Brandon Scherff and Mark Glowinski or centers Ryan Jensen and Ted Karras. All four options are likely going to fall into the category of market-resetting signings this offseason, with Scherff likely to earn one of the highest amounts of guaranteed money in a new contract of all time.
If shooting for cheaper options, players like Cam Robinson (T), Eric Fisher (T), Aaron Stinnie (G), Lucas Patrick (G), Nick Martin (C), and Matt Paradis (C) would be smart targets, as these six players are all still worthy of a mid-level contract and can immediately help improve this line right away.
The Seahawks have a bunch of holes to patch up this offseason, but none are more important than the offensive line – if they want to compete, they must rectify this area sooner rather than later.
