Veteran linebacker Bobby Wagner aspires to stay on with the Seattle Seahawks for the 2022 season, and head coach Pete Carroll hopes that this will be the case in the end.

In speaking during a press conference on Friday, Carroll touched on Wagner’s future in Seattle, where he noted that he wants the All-Pro linebacker to remain with the team.

“I would love Bobby to play here forever,” Carroll said. “He’s been as solid as you could ever want a player to be.

“We’ve kind of grown up as Seahawks together over the years here in this program over the years, and I’d love for him to be here. I don’t see why we would be thinking anything else.”

Wagner’s future with the Seahawks has been much in question as of late. He currently has a mere one more season remaining on his contract with the team. He is set to be owed a $16.3 million base salary for the 2022 season.

The one-time Super Bowl winner did note last month that he is well expecting to see changes within the team, and he stands unsure on whether the front office may opt to part ways with him over the upcoming offseason.

If it were up to Wagner, he would much prefer to stay put in Seattle for next season.

“I don't feel like this is my last time putting on a Seahawks uniform,” Wagner said on Wednesday. “I don't feel like this is my last time doing that. I understand there is a business side to this, but there is a lot of optimism on my end that I'll be back.

“So on my end, that's where I'm at, that I'm a Seahawk until they tell me I'm not. So that's my mindset. So I don't see it as that was my last game or this next game could be my last game.”

There is still a possibility that Wagner may have already played in his final game with the Seahawks. He came away from the home win against the Detroit Lions with a sprained knee injury. The team ruled him out for the upcoming clash with the Arizona Cardinals in Week 18, as Carroll noted that Wagner had some swelling in his knee and “it just didn’t loosen up enough.”

Wagner finished regular season play with 170 total tackles, one sack and one interception.
