Throughout the last few months, the Seattle Seahawks have been in the midst of a difficult internal situation with star safety Earl Thomas' contract situation.

Things have gotten much more rough with Thomas suffering a broken leg in Sunday's 20-17 win over the Arizona Cardinals that looks to have ended his 2018 season that led to his decision to flip off the coaches after he was carted off the field. In response to all of that, head coach Pete Carroll has come in support of the 29-year-old, according to Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk.

“I know there’s been a lot of talk about it, people that are criticizing whatever happened don’t understand … give him a little slack,” Carroll said. “This is a very, very difficult moment that most people would never understand what this is about.”

This has become a complicated matter as there has been plenty of issues with the entire situation on both sides with Thomas firmly on desiring a new deal with the team. However, there hasn't been any budging from the front office throughout this entire time that has led to much disgruntlement from the Pro Bowler that has compounded with him breaking his leg.

Thomas could be heading into an offseason where he could lose out on a significant payday as the Seahawks, or another team could be hesitant to give him that type of month on the open market. Instead of having that long-term deal to fall back onto, it has put him a risky spot of being out of the way from earning the type of contract his play has earned.

Things could take an intriguing turn over the next few weeks with Thomas likely out for the rest of the year. Ultimately, the Seahawks control his fate for the rest of the 2018 campaign.
