Seattle Seahawks defensive end Jadeveon Clowney was out of the mix for the team's game against the Philadelphia Eagles last week due to both a knee and hip injury. But as the team prepares to take on the Minnesota Vikings on Monday Night Football, head coach Pete Carroll is banking on his star pass-rusher returning to the fold.
“[W]e’re counting on him getting back,” Carroll said, per Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk. “We are, we’re counting on him getting back, but he’s still got to make it. That’s a little twinge of optimism there again. He feels good about it and he wants to go. He’s going to try and make it.”
Clowney had arguably his best game of the season the last time that he suited up, which was Week 10 against the San Francisco 49ers. In that contest, he logged a season-high five quarterback hits and five solo tackles, also adding his third forced fumble and second fumble recovery of the year. The ball that he pounced on he returned for a 10-yard score, marking the first time that he marched into the end zone during his six-year career.
Seattle will close out the 2019 regular season with three of their final five games coming against NFC West opponents. At 9-2, the team is not only jockeying with the 49ers for first place in the division but also the No. 1 seed in the NFC, which would secure them home-field advantage throughout the playoffs and make sure that Clowney would be even more of a terror for opposing quarterbacks.
