After a brief one-year hiatus from the postseason, the Seattle Seahawks are going back to the playoffs this year, as they defeated the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday night to put a bow on a Wild Card spot in the NFC.

Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll was very emotional about the accomplishment, as he doesn't think many people thought Seattle would be able to achieve this feat this season, according to John Boyle of the Seahawks' official team website:

“There’s an emotion to it that’s deep, and it’s because there weren’t very many people that thought we could do this,” Carroll said. “Most everybody thought we didn’t have a chance. To hang together, hang through it, we got it done before the season is over. I wish we would have nailed it last week, too, to keep this feeling that’s going on the last 6 or 7 weeks or whatever, I don’t know how many weeks it’s been, but we’ve been riding it. It’s a magnificent feeling that gives us the confidence that we can go anywhere and play anybody. We’re ready to roll.”

Since dropping to 4-5 with a loss to the Los Angeles Rams back on Nov. 11, the Seahawks have won five of their last six games to jump back into the NFC playoff picture and, eventually, nab a Wild Card berth.

Seattle missed the postseason last year for the first time since 2011. From 2012 through 2015, the Seahawks made two Super Bowl appearances, including a blowout win over the Denver Broncos during the 2013-14 campaign.

Seattle will conclude its regular season when it plays host to the Arizona Cardinals next week.
