Not so fast, folks. While it is true that Richard Sherman has been released by his long-time employer, the Seattle Seahawks, his time in the Great Northwest may not be officially over.

According to Albert Breer of SI.com, Sherman claims the organization still wants him back, but only at “the right price.”

“They wanted the financial flexibility going into free agency but expressed that they wanted me to return and will be in contact,” Sherman said.

The release was finally confirmed by Sherman himself during the early-afternoon hours of Friday. For quite some time now, the transaction has been considered a foregone conclusion.

The Seahawks are reloading up-and-down the depth chart and it appears as though nobody's safe.

Assuming Sherman does leave via free agency, his final stat-line with the team he'll always be associated sparkles. In eight seasons, Sherman qualified for four Pro Bowls and was named to an amazing three First-Team All-Pro squads. All told, he picked off 32 balls, forced five fumbles, recovered five fumbles, picked up one sack, tallied 286 tackles and capitalized with two touchdowns.

During the 2013 season, Sherman and the rest of his Legion of Boom teammates climbed that National Football League mountaintop with the organization's first Vince Lombardi Trophy, spanking Peyton Manning's Denver Broncos in New Jersey.

The Seahawks remain near the bottom of the league in terms of cap space. The odds are against the generational yet aging corner to return to the team. But his recent words provide at least some hope (depending on how much Sherman's willing to sacrifice to remain home).

NFL free agency opens up on March 14 with the legal tampering period beginning just two days prior, March 12.
