In the days leading up to the regular season opener, the Pittsburgh Steelers have kept a close eye on the health of star wide receiver Antonio Brown.

According to Dale Lolley of DKPittsburghSports.com, Brown took a step forward by participating in practice on Monday that should put him on track to play in the season opener against the Cleveland Browns.

Brown will continue to work toward being back on the field for the season opener. He was likely not going to play much in the preseason anyway due to his importance on the offense as the key fixture in the passing game. The 30-year-old has established himself as arguably the best wide receiver in the league over the last several years behind his elite level of production.

Brown is coming off another highly productive campaign where he recorded 101 catches for a league-best 1,533 receiving yards despite missing the final two games of the regular season due to injury. He has a chance to become the first player to post six straight seasons with 100 catches for 1,200 receiving yards.

If Brown's able to remain healthy, there is no reason to believe he can't pace himself on that path in the 2018 campaign, as the Steelers will rely on him to lead the offense, especially if star running back Le'Veon Bell is out of the mix due to his contract situation.

The Steelers will likely continue to monitor Brown's progress and ease him along this week. His return to practice should see him remain active in team activities ahead of the season opener. The All-Pro wideout should be confident that he can get the 2018 campaign off to a strong start as he did last year in Week 1 against the Browns, where he hauled in all 11 targets for 182 receiving yards.
