Tampa Bay Buccaneers tight end Rob Gronkowski has been released from his WWE contract. As the old pro wrestling saying goes, never pretend as if this is a forever move, as there is always a chance he could make more appearances down the road. Gronkowski lost his 24/7 title to R Truth in the latest episode of WWE Monday Night Raw.
According to a source of Wrestlinginc.com, the Buccaneers tight end had a release clause in his contract with the WWE that allowed him to get out of his contract if he decided to return to the NFL. He was supposed to be a part of SummerSlam but that won't be happening now.
When he originally joined the WWE, the Buccaneers talent said he would like to be apart of one crazy wrestling match.
“With wrestling, I don't feel like I would be a full-time wrestler, but there is one thing I'm down for,” the Buccaneers talent said at a press conference last year, via CBS Sports. “And that's to do one crazy match. Practice it for a little bit, go out there, like in a Royal Rumble, go out there, I got my friend in WWE [Rawley], practice it and do a full-on WWE match. I'm not saying when. Maybe five years. I got the rest of my life to do that. I've always dreamed about doing that, just one time, going in there and going full out. That may be a possibility, one time, down the road.”
It's hard to imagine that his time with the WWE is actually over, but for now the focus moves back o the NFL and hoping to win another couple of Super Bowls with the Buccaneers.
