The Edmonton Oilers play host to their division rival, the Anaheim Ducks, as they look to extend on their three-game winning streak under new head coach Jay Woodcroft. The Ducks look to get back in the win column tonight after surrendering three-straight losses. Both teams have 55 points and are tied in the Pacific Division in third place, also with the Los Angeles Kings. All three teams are going to be keeping tabs on each other as playoffs slowly start to get closer and closer, but tonight will be the game where one of these teams separates from the tie. With that, it’s time to continue our NHL odds series with a Ducks-Oilers prediction and pick.

Why The Ducks Can Cover The Spread/Win

The Ducks were not very impressive in their 6-2 loss to Calgary on Wednesday as superstar goaltender John Gibson gave up four goals on just 20 shots before being replaced in the second period. Anaheim will look to bounce back in Edmonton tonight as they continue their Western Canadian road trip. Because he started last night and frankly played horribly, Gibson will get the night off in this back-to-back game for the Ducks. Anthony Stolarz will get the start in net for Anaheim, as he's 7-5-1 with two shutouts on the year so far, but also allowing 2.73 goals against with a .919 save percentage.

The Ducks will look to lean on their young talent again tonight in Troy Terry and Trevor Zegras. Terry is leading the team in offensive output, tallying 25 goals and 43 total points on the season so far, while Zegras isn't too far behind him with 12 goals and 33 total points. Anaheim will need their young studs to play to their full potential if they want to upset the Oilers in their own barn tonight.

Why The Oilers Can Cover The Spread/Win

The Oilers have picked up three straight victories after hiring their new coaching staff, including a pair of road wins in California Monday and Tuesday. Edmonton won 5-2 behind Mike Smith who looks to get another start for them tonight. He's been hot as of late, allowing just three total goals on 70 shots in his past two wins. On the season, Smith is 4-4-1 allowing 3.34 goals against per game and a .904 save percentage. To no surprise, superstars Connor McDavid and Leon Daisaitl are Edmonton's top contributors on offense, both with 66 total points so far, leading the Oilers to be ranked 12th in the league, scoring 3.21 goals per game. If they take advantage of a backup goaltender, they should be able to pull off a victory at home tonight and pull ahead in the standings with their well-earned two points.

Final Ducks-Oilers Prediction & Pick

The new coaching staff for the Oilers has led them to be on a tear as of late, going 3-0 since the new hire, and they look to improve on it again tonight at home as the clear favorites. Even though both teams are currently tied with 55 points on the season, Edmonton has much better talent than most teams of the teams in the league. I think they defend their home ice well tonight and put that talent to work against Anaheim's second-in-line goaltender. The odds are quite low for the Oilers' Moneyline, so I'm going to take their puck line instead. Still not great, but at least it's still plus money.

Final Ducks-Oilers Prediction & Pick: Oilers -1.5 (+104)
