Why The Flames Can Cover The Spread/Win

The Calgary Flames head into this matchup playing some of their best hockey lately, ignoring the 7-1 embarrassing loss to the Canucks a couple of games ago. They took down the Wild on Saturday at home, and now are looking to do it again tonight while on the road. The Flames have great depth throughout their roster and have maintained to stay relatively healthy throughout the season. Since the Flames are so far ahead of the wild-card teams in the West, they can afford to start some “load management” for their star goaltender, Jacob Markstrom, even though he'll likely get the start tonight anyway. He's been exceptional this year, as he's leading the league in shutouts with a save percentage of .925 and allowing 2.13 goals per game. He'll look to stay hot and help his team win back-to-back matchups against the Wild tonight.

Why The Wild Can Cover The Spread/Win

This Minnesota Wild team has been a disaster lately, losing five of their last six games, which is puzzling considering their team is so talented and was a true Stanley Cup contender before the All-Star break. However, the good news for the Wild is that they're back home where they have one of the better home records in the league at 16-4-1. Hopefully, this can be a boost to their play as they have all the talent, but have lost the spark that's needed to take them pretty far into the playoffs. Goaltender Cam Talbot will get to patrol the home crease tonight as he has a .910 save percentage on the year and allowing 2.94 goals against. Talbot will need to step up in a big way tonight if he wants to help his team grab a desperate two points.

Final Flames-Wild Prediction & Pick

The Wild have not been playing well lately, and it's slowly starting to show as they continue to slide down the standings. However, they need to get back on track somehow, and beating a team twice in a row is very difficult to do in the NHL. This time, the Wild will have their home crowd supporting them tonight as Minnesota will certainly be playing better than they did on Saturday. I might wait closer to game time to see if this line gets pushed into plus money, but regardless, I'm going to back the Wild tonight to turn things around and get back on track.
